Canex V Cream: Effective Vaginal Antifungal Treatment

Canex V Cream is used to treat all fungal skin infections such as infection of the vulva and also used with other medicines to treat infection of the vagina. It is also used to prevent reinfection by applying on the penis of the sexual partner. Canex V solution can also be used to treat fungal infections of the middle ear and outer ear. This medicine works by blocking the synthesis of a substance in the cell membranes of fungi. It may lead to functional and structural dysfunction of fungi.
Antifungal
Canex V belongs to a class of medicines called Antifungal. Antifungals are a group of drugs that treat fungal infections of the skin and body, including athlete’s foot, fungal nail infections, ringworm, and vaginal candidiasis. These medicines limit the growth of a wide range of fungi by damaging the fungal cell membrane.

How to use

Read the directions on the product label, patient guide, or medicine guide provided by the medicine company or your pharmacist before starting to use Canex V Cream. If you have any questions related to this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Apply this medicine as recommended by your doctor.

Typical Dosage

Canex V is commonly used at the same time every day. This medicine is not known to be habit-forming.

Talk to Your Doctor

Talk to your doctor if your condition persists or worsens or if you develop new symptoms. Tell your doctor if skin rash, swallowing problems, breathing problems, swelling of the lips, swelling of the face, swelling of the throat, swelling of the tongue, weakness, feeling dizzy, feeling faint, nausea, redness of the skin, burning of the skin, pain on the affected area, itching of the skin, swelling of the skin, blisters, discomfort, irritation, peeling of the skin, hives, stomach pain, fever, chills, vomiting, and abnormal vaginal discharge.

Use in Children

If you are giving Canex V Cream to a child, be sure to use a product that is meant for children. Before giving this medicine to a child, use the child’s weight or age to find the right dose from the product package. If the product package does not provide specific information as to how the medicine can be given to children, consult with your doctor and follow their recommendation.

Storage

You should store Canex V Cream below or at 25ºC (77ºF) for 10 g tube and solution of Canex V. The 20 g tube does not require any specific storage conditions. Store the medicine away from the reach of children and pets.
Medicines may be prescribed for uses other than those listed in the medicine guide. Do not use Canex V Cream for conditions for which it was not prescribed. Do not give Canex V Cream to other people who might have the same conditions or symptoms that you have. Self-medication may harm them.

What are the uses of Canex V?

The list of uses of this medicine are as follows:

  • infection of the vagina used with other medicines
  • prevent reinfection of sexual partner’s penis
  • fungal infection of the middle ear or outer ear

How to take Canex V

The dose and frequency of using Canex V will depend on the following factors:

  • Recommended: A thin layer of Canex V should be applied and gently rubbed to the affected area for 2-3 times daily.

Overdose

What to do if you overdose on Canex V?
In case of accidental orally taken, close supervision should be provided. Stomach emptying should be performed by cleaning out the contents of the stomach if overdose symptoms occur such as dizziness, vomiting or nausea. Stomach emptying should be conducted if sufficient airway provided to the patient.
Symptoms of an overdose of Canex V
If you use too much of this medicine, it could lead to dangerous levels of the medicine in your body. In such cases, symptoms of an overdose may include:
  • dizziness
  • nausea
  • vomiting
If you think you have overdosed on Canex V Cream, call a poison control center immediately.

Precautions while using Canex V

Before you use Canex V, tell your doctor of your medical and health history including the following:
  • a blood stained discharge
  • blisters of the vagina or vulva
  • chills
  • diarrhea
  • fever
  • foul smelling discharge from the vagina
  • irregular or abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • lower abdominal pain
  • more than two infections of thrush within the last six months
  • pain or difficulty in passing urine
  • sexually transmitted disease
  • sores of the vagina or vulva
  • ulcers of the vagina or vulva
  • vomiting
Before using Canex V, you should see your doctor if you have these symptoms or conditions. In such cases, this medicine may not be the right treatment.
Before you use Canex V Cream, tell your doctor if you are allergic to it or its ingredients. Your doctor may prescribe an alternative medicine and update your medical records to record this information. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to cetostearyl alcohol.

Use in Pregnancy

Canex V Cream should be used in pregnancy only when required. Supervision of a doctor is necessary when using this medicine in pregnant women.

Use while Breastfeeding

Consult with your doctor on the use of Canex V during breastfeeding. This medicine may pass into breast milk. A decision should be made whether to discontinue using this medicine or to discontinue breastfeeding taking into account that the benefit of therapy for the woman and breastfeeding child.

Impact on Fertility

Consult with your doctor on the use of Canex V Cream, if you are trying to conceive.

Dizziness

Canex V Cream can make you feel sleepy. Be careful while driving, using machinery, or doing any other activity that needs you to be alert. The consumption of alcohol with Canex V Cream can make you feel more sleepy.

Canex V Side-effects

Rarely, the use of Canex V Cream may cause the following side-effects:

  • feeling of discomfort

  • pain on the affected area
  • removal of dead skin cells (exfoliation)
  • skin blister
  • skin itching
  • skin redness
  • swelling of the lips, throat, face, or tongue
  • weakness
The following severe side-effects may also occur when using Canex V Cream:
  • Skin tissue disorders
    Symptoms: swelling of the skin due to fluid accumulation, severe allergic reaction (erythema), skin rash skin burning
    If this happens, ask your doctor immediately.
  • Immune system disorders
    Symptoms: high blood pressure shortness of breath (dyspnea)
  • Severe allergic reactions
    Symptoms: swallowing problems breathing problems
    In this case, call your doctor right away.

Warnings

Previous Medical Conditions

If the patient had more than two fungal infections of the vagina in the previous six months and the history of a sexually transmitted disease to the patient or patient’s partner, medical advice should be taken before using Canex V in such patient. Patients with pregnancy, aged under 16 years or over 60 years and allergy to vaginal antifungal medicines, should seek advice from the doctor before starting treatment.

Medical Conditions

Patients with irregular vaginal bleeding, vaginal or vulval ulcers, sores or blisters, vaginal blood-stained discharge, stomach pain, painful urination after using the Canex V, should stop the treatment and take advice from the doctor. Patients using Canex V may experience irritation, redness or swelling, fever or chills, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea or a foul smell from vaginal discharge. In such patients, the treatment should be discontinued.

Cetostearyl Alcohol

The product of Canex V contains cetostearyl alcohol, that may induce skin reactions such as red, itchy rash caused by contact with a substance (contact dermatitis).

External Use Only

These products are not for oral use. In the case of oral ingestion or eye contact, ask your doctor right away or wash it with water immediately and contact with the accident and emergency department of the nearest hospital.

Interactions with Canex V

When two or more medicines are taken together, it can change how the medicines work and increase the risk of side-effects. In medical terms, this is called as a Drug Interaction.

Antibiotics

There may be an interaction of Canex V with sofradex, which is used to treat ear infections. The use of Canex V solution with Sofradex ear drops may cause heat reaction.

Contraceptives

Canex V Cream may interact with contraceptives, which are used to prevent pregnancy. The use of contraceptives with Canex V may damage latex contraceptives. So, the effectiveness of contraceptives may be reduced. Contraceptives should not be used with Canex V. Patients should take alternative precautions for birth control for at least five days after using Canex V. Avoid vaginal intercourse.

Interactions of Canex V by Severity

Severe

The following medicines are usually not to be taken together without consulting with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Contraceptives

Moderate

The following medicines may interact when taken together and can increase your risk of harmful effects. Please consult with your doctor or pharmacist before taking these medicines together.
  • Framycetin Sulfate
  • Dexamethasone Sodium Metasulfobenzoate
  • Gramicidin

When should Canex V be not used?

Allergy

The patients should not use Canex V if they allergic to it or any of the other ingredients, including cetostearyl alcohol.

Contraceptives

The use of contraceptives with Canex V may damage latex contraceptives. So, the effectiveness of contraceptives may be reduced. Tampons, spermicides, douches, or other vaginal products should not be used with Canex V. Patients should take alternative precautions for birth control for at least five days after using Canex V. Avoid vaginal intercourse.

Expired Medication

Taking a single dose of expired Canex V is unlikely to cause a side-effect. However, please discuss with your doctor or pharmacist, if you feel unwell or sick. An expired medicine may become ineffective in treating your prescribed conditions. To be on the safe side, it is important not to use an expired drug. You are much safer by always keeping a fresh supply of unexpired medicines.

Safe Disposal of Medication

  • If there are disposal instructions on the package, please follow the instructions.
  • If there are medicine take-back programs in your country, you should contact the respective authority to arrange for the disposal of the medicine. For example, in the USA, the Drug Enforcement Administration regularly hosts National Prescription Drug Take-Back events.
  • If there are no take-back programs, mix the medicine with dirt and place them in a sealed plastic bag. Throw the plastic bag in your household trash. Separately, remove all personal information including the prescription label from the medicine packaging and then dispose off the container.
  • If specifically indicated on the medicine package that it needs to be flushed down the toilet when no longer needed, perform the required step.
